The last few years have seen John Mulaney go from relative obscurity to one of the most in-demand comedy minds in the business, and now the funnyman is teaming with Netflix for a new children's special just in time for Christmas titled John Mulaney and The Sack Lunch Bunch. Looking like a throwback to the children's television programming of the 1970s and early 1980s, the special finds Mulaney wearing a Mr. Rogers-esque sweater, surrounded by pre-teens and a star-studded lineup of guest stars.
The show's eclectic mix of celebrity guests is the big appeal here with famous actors like Jake Gyllenhaal and Natasha Lyonne mingling with the likes of Broadway legend André De Shields and Talking Heads frontman David Byrne. Richard Kind is also on hand, and I only single him out because he has a great two scene glorified cameo in Bombshell as Rudy Giuliani that absolutely must be seen to be believed.
Mulaney is one of the few people in this industry who has earned the benefit of the doubt, so there's no question that whatever this special turns out to be, it'll probably be way better than many of us were expecting. John Mulaney and The Sack Lunch Bunch premieres on Netflix on Christmas Eve!
