National League Trounces American League

After going 13 years without a win in the Mid-Summer Classic the National League are getting dangerously close to starting a new trend. The NL got out on top early with a five run first inning and coasted to an easy 8-0 over the AL at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City Tuesday night.

The AL went with Detroit Tigers ace Justin Verlander to start the game. Seeing he has an ERA of just 2.58, is tied for the lead in strikeouts, and has held hitters to a .200 batting average it seemed like a good idea, right?

While Verlander did start the game by striking out Carlos Gonzalez, he ended up walking two and giving up four hits including a triple to Pablo Sandoval--yes, all 240+ pounds of the Kung Fu Panda-- for a five run first inning.

I don't get many triples. We had some fun with that in the dugout.

Since there were no errors recorded in the game one can only surmise that the Kung Fu Panda must tapped into some unknown speed reserves that no one knew he had (since he stayed in the game we can only assume he did not need oxygen once he finally got to the dugout).

It was a banner day for the Giants as Sandoval accounted for three RBIs, Matt Cain got the win, and Melky Cabrera was awarded the MVP after going 2-3 with two RBIs, a home run, and scored two runs himself.

The win is the most lopsided one that the NL has had in the 83 year history of the game. It's also the first time in more than 20 years that the NL has won three seasons in a row, and only its sixth win in the last quarter of a century.

(With the game being such a blow out, Letterman's Top Ten List might be more entertaining.)
