Morgan Freeman and Elizabeth Banks have both joined the cast of Warner Bros. 3-D animated Lego movie. And I kid you not, according to Deadline, the plot revolves around 'an ordinary Lego mini-figure, mistakenly thought to be the extraordinary MasterBuilder, is recruited to join a quest to stop an evil Lego tyrant from gluing the universe together.' You know, that whole cliché.
While my favorite childhood toys 'Hungry, Hungry Hippos' and 'Plastic Dry Cleaning Bag' have yet to be turned into features, Lego comes on the heels of cancelled toy-to-film projects like Monopoly and Ouijia and Viewmaster. Following the failure of Battleship, most studios (thankfully) started jumping off this bandwagon, but it looks like Warner is moving ahead regardless.
Why make a CGI-animated movie about physical, plastic toys? Well, the real reason is because they want to bilk young parents for thousands to shell out for merchandise for the kids. Obviously. But if you look at the videos below, you'll see people have already been hard at work creating some beautifully animated sequences with actual legos.
