Who would have thought that the first woman from the United States to win the Miss Universe competition would be a girl from small town Rhode Island.

I actually have no idea if Olivia Culpo is from a small town or not, but she is from Rhode Island, so I feel like any town in that state has got to qualify as small town. How many towns can even fit in there? Like three, four?

I am just saying, if I had to peg which state would be the first to produce a Miss Universe winner in this century I would have put my money on California. I would have been wrong, but I admit that is what I would have done.

California has so many people in it that the statistical probability of it makes it a solid choice. Plus, California seems to be respected on the world stage, and that matters in instances such as this. Just like in the Olympics, we can always count on China and Cuba to lowball us, and as much as it pains me to say this, we need Europe to enter in on our behalf.
