MMA Just Got Medieval

 

It's been said that MMA fighting is the modern equivalent of gladiatorial combat. Two men, or women, go in the ring and beat the crap out of each other until someone passes out or give up. That's not nearly as brutal as gladiatorial fights nor the equally violent medieval melee or joust. We've all seen the tournament scenes in Game of Thrones. That stuff was really rough and people died all the time. With that in mind, Russian MMA league M-1 global thought it would be a good idea to have knights in armor try and beat each other into submission with real weapons. What could possibly go wrong? You've got to love the Russians for thinking this is a good idea. "Yeah, we'll just reenact medieval combat in every sense and I'm sure everyone will be OK."

Or maybe they are taking their countryman Ivan Drago's philosophy of, "If he dies, he dies" to heart. Either way I would totally watch this.
