The talented lads at Playstation LifeStyle have done the hardwork of tracking down and translating Hideo Kojima (the creative driving force behind Metal Gear Solid games) confirming that there will be a Metal Gear Solid 5 and that stories of Solid Snake will continue.

There are a couple of quotes that do most of the heavy lifting here and that, if true, spell good news for Metal Gear Solid fans who still aren't quite sure what to make of Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance.

Kojima is translated as saying:

About Metal Gear Solid 5, I can tell you two things. There will be much question of infiltration, espionage, and convincing people to give you "a favor" like in the last Metal Gear Solid. I liked the idea of ??social interactions in Deus Ex: Human Revolution, but we will see. And if I say more, the female ninja public relations officer, who is behind the door, I will be carved up into pieces. So it's better that we meet again when the time comes to talk about Metal Gear Solid 5.

I've seen these female ninja public relations officers and they're really nothing to fear. Not sure what Kojima's problem is with that one. Anyway, the fact that he's disclosing such well thought out ideas for a MGS5 title and that they would fit well within the framework of the series lends credibility to the whole thing. Kojima continues:

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance never claimed to be a Metal Gear Solid. This is not a game about our beloved Solid Snake. It is a spinoff that tries something different. We have not yet finished with Solid Snake, despite the fact that I wanted to let him die at the end of Guns of the Patriots.

This explains the new game's wild title that would surely make a grade school English-teacher cringe. Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance is supposed to be unlike the MGS games before it with fast paced, sword action as opposed to stealth and puzzle gameplay. It seems anxious fans just have one reaction when they see the phrase "Metal Gear" anywhere and their expectations go crazy.

In any event, Revengeance is still some time away so a Metal Gear Solid 5 will most likely end up on an as yet unnamed console. And that's a bigger story that we're all chasing.
