I'm a big fan of Japanese food, or rather the Japanese food that is served generally here in the United States. The truth is that in Japan itself they eat a lot of strange flavor combinations that would not fly here in the States. The Japanese are apparently really into Kit-Kats. I can get behind that, I friggin' love Kit-Kats. But their latest flavor sounds super gross. Hokkaido Melon with Mascarpone Cheese flavored Kit-Kats? Yes. The combination of melon and mascarpone cheese might be tasty as an antipasto at an Italian restaurant, probably. But mixed with chocolate and wafers? I don't think so. I'm pretty sure that the flavor combination would make you immediately projectile vomit into a trash can. Maybe I'm being a culinary chauvinist and judging a combination of tastes that would be considered lovely in Japan and just doesn't jive with the banal American palate.
Or it's just disgusting. What's next? Apples and horseradish?
