Gus Van Sant famously remade Psycho shot-for-shot (with the addition of a shot of Norman masturbating) back in the 90s to a lot of dumbstruck audiences and critics. It probably didn't help that the lead in the dark horror movie was played by Vince Vaughn. But now Lost-co-creator Carlton Cuse has decided to try his hand at updating the class Alfred Hitchcock movie about a roadside motel that caters to its residents in not-so friendly ways.
The newest adaptation cast Freddie Highmore as Norman and Vera Farmiga as mother Norma. I dig that they've made it set in modern times and its a story that probably deserves the prequel treatment to explain the disastrous, possibly-incestuous mother/son relationship that led to one of the best shower scenes (not including Dressed to Kill, of course) in movie history. And since you kind of know deep down after watching Prometheus that it was Damon Lindelof who strong-armed Cuse into that last season of Lost plotline, you gotta be excited that Cuse is at the helm of this series.
Bates Motel will hit A&E in March.
