Anyone who hasn't been living under a rock has seen the recent trailers for Borderlands 2, showcasing the four playable character classes that follow in the shadow of the four classes found in the original. Those looking for something a little more fresh may be in luck as the mention of a possible fifth class has been made at PAX East.
The fifth class, cleverly titled 'Mechromancer', was revealed as a young girl with red pigtails and goggles. One of her arms was mechanical and she seemed to have a robot companion that looks a lot more badass than any Claptrap we've ever seen.
Randy Pitchford, President over at Gearbox Software, made the announcement stating that the Mechromancer was still a new idea and would probably be released for free somewhere around two months after the launch of the game itself in September.
So what is a Mechromancer?
Well, the Mechromancer class can, apparently, control mechanical units, including her companion 'D374-TP' (Deathtrap). As for her specialty weapon wise...it's anyone's guess at this point.
Either way, it's a unique class and a breath of fresh air into the recycled classes of the original game...plus it's free....so there's that.
While it's still not 100% confirmed that the Mechromancer class will see the light of day, it seems like Pitchford and the rest of the guys over at Gearbox have the foundation set and are ready to start making their new character.
Pitchford also went on to discuss the character customization in the game and how players will be able to not only change character colors but decals, unique and Weapons Manufacturer-specific skins and rare, collectible decorative heads that players can apply.
