Sony has been trying to develop a live-action Masters of the Universe reboot for at least two-and-a-half years. Unfortunately, they've pretty much been spinning their wheels the whole time, unable to pin down a director or even a screenwriter.

It's been a real shame, too. Though the original animated series was pure cheese and based on a line of 80s toys, if you add a little backstory and fill out some of the characters, Masters of the Universe could be like Game of Thrones in Space. Which would be awesome.

Fortunately it looks like Sony may finally be making progress Masters of the Universe. According to Deadline, Charlie's Angels and Terminator Salvation director McG is in talks to direct. If they get a deal worked out he'll have to oversee a script re-write to suit his vision of the project. But actually getting a director would finally put the project on track for production.

If nothing else, the casting rumors should be pretty fun.
