Jimmie Johnson tied NASCAR legends Richard Petty and Bobby Allison when he recorded his seventh win at the Dover International Speedway Sunday. He didn't have much competition though. Yes, he is one of the premier racers of this generation; winner of five of the last six Sprint Cup championships. His car was in tip top shape and his pit strategy was flawless, but than again he drove against a pretty depleted field.
Huh? Oh--that's because a number of drivers were knocked out in a 13-car crash less than 10 laps into the race.
Nine laps in, Tony Stewart made contact with Landon Cassill causing him to spin into the wall. Regan Smith hit Stewart's back end and all heck broke loose from there as car after car got involved in the accident. When the smoke started to clear a total of 13 cars were involved.
A few drivers were able to return, but none came close to being contention. So yeah, Jimmie Johnson won at Dover again, but he barely raced against anyone so who cares?
