The first phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe could not have gone any better. Iron Man, Iron Man 2, Thor, Captain America, and The Avengers were all gigantic hits that left audiences dying to hear what phases two and three would bring.

Then Marvel threw said fans a bit of a curveball. Yes, phases two and three would have all the stuff fans really wanted, such as Iron Man 3, Thor 2, Captain America 2, and Avengers 2. But it would also have a few films that would leave people scratching their heads, such as Guardians of the Galaxy and Ant-Man.

This isn't to say these aren't worthy films. They'll probably be great. It's just that they aren't very well-known. I've been writing about Guardians for months now, and I'm still not sure what it's about. (Space cops?)

Meanwhile, Ant-Man was a member of the original Avengers that was deemed so critical that...um...Joss Whedon left him out of Avengers the movie altogether.

Ouch.

Nevertheless, Ant-Man is making it up to Ant-Man fans by giving the tiny super hero his own movie in 2015. And today there's word that Marvel has narrowed down the title character to two actors: Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Paul Rudd.

The first? Yep, that sounds about right. JGL is rumored to be in everything right now, because he's young, talented and, from what I hear, pretty good-looking. But Paul Rudd? Yeah, not many people would have pegged him as the super hero type.

Of course, whoever Marvel goes with in the end, this latest bit of news should put to rest the rumors about Simon Pegg playing Ant-Man. That was never going to happen.
