Making an MMO is tough; ask any debeloper and they'll say the same. Making an MMO a success, while keeping it going is even harder. The amount of time and money it takes just to keep such a massive project online so it's really something special when we get to see one really soar. Where is all this ramble coming from, you ask? Gazillion Entertainment has just announced a major milestone for their recently released MMO Marvel Super Hero Squad Online.
After a bit of touch and go but an overall successful launch, Gazillion Entertainment has announced that they've officially hit the 4 million user milestone for Marvel Super Hero Squad Online, which I'll be calling MSHSO for the sake of my future carpal tunnel syndrome.
Four million users worldwide puts MSHSO right where it should be, seeing as it was only released late last year. Along with the impressive milestone comes word of the relaunch of HeroUp.com. The site will now act as the official site for the MMO as well as a portal for European players to enter the game, allowing for a much richer social experience. President and COO of Gazillion Entertainment has commented on the news, stating 'we love the passion that our players have shown for the game, and we are excited to continue to put out new and exciting content for them to enjoy.'
We're very proud of the latest achievements of Super Hero Squad Online and our partner, Gazillion Entertainment. Most importantly, we're appreciative of the fans, whose support of the game has made it possible to reach this milestone moment. -Rob Steffens, GM (Marvel Studios)
MSHSO is a free-to-play game that allows players to enter the role of any of over 85 available heroes and join with friends to complete missions and fight head to head with a variety of some of Marvel's greatest villains. With such a large universe of characters to work with, Gazillion Entertainment has been able to shine a light on some of Marvel's biggest heroes such as Iron Man, Captain America, Spiderman and the Hulk. It's also given the company the ability to experiment with some of Marvel's lesser known heroes such as Luke Cage, Dr. Strange and even a few D list heroes such as Squirrel Girl.
MSHSO features over 30 missions spanning four unique zones, with more content being added all the time. With over four million users, paid or not, Gazillion and Marvel's latest creation may just start reaching new heights and seeing some major additions in the near future.
