Jeff Goldblum was at his most delightfully eccentric in this past fall' Thor: Ragnarok, and thanks to Marvel announcing the film's Blu-ray and Digital HD release dates, we can bask in more of his strangeness via this new sneak peek. The best of the Thor films will be available to own on Digital HD February 20, and on DVD, Blu-ray, and 4K Blu-ray two weeks later on March 6.
Marvel has released this "Sneak Peek" which is nothing more than four of the best minutes in the film as Thor and Hulk square off in The Grandmaster's arena. One of the things this clip brought rushing back to me is just how great Mark Mothersbaugh's score for this film was. It was a synth heavy score right out of the early 80s fantasy days when Tangerine Dream, Vangelis, and Giorgio Moroder were scoring films on the regular. It's just one more thing that helps Ragnarok stand out from the crowd.
I think time will be kind to Thor: Ragnarok as well. I feel the film's biggest missteps were in its advertising, as the trailers and promos gave away nearly every major plot point in the film. As that stuff recedes to the background and people can enjoy the film on its own merits, they'll discover a comic book movie with a fantastically unique and original voice. I may even regret ranking it as low as I did on the list of this year's comic book movies. Only time will tell. You can also check out a hilarious blooper reel below...
