Many people seem to like piling onto the LGBT community for hijacking the rainbow, including the homosexuals only for different reasons, but everyone is largely silent when it comes to the theft of the motorcycle jacket by women. There used to be a time when wearing this style of leather jacket was damn near the most masculine piece of clothing a person could have. It was worn by biker gangs, it was worn by The Ramones, and now it is almost exclusively worn by women.
The jacket has become so badly tainted that if I see a man wearing it on the streets I will voluntarily offer him directions to the city's nearest gay district. That's not right. I imagine women started wearing the jacket as an easy way to be perceived as tough. I fear they over shot their mark, though, and now it has become completely saturated in femininity.
Neegan from The Walking Dead has made decent headway in reclaiming the look, but even that required the drastic measure of beating people to death with a baseball bat. I hope that will not become our only avenue of approach to successfully recoup all things leather. My stomach gets queasy at the sound of breaking bones.
