I don’t understand listening parties. I have never been to one, and I have no plans of ever going to one. It seems like a scam to me. What, are the performers too lazy to just put on an actual concert?
They want me to come to their venue to listen to their prerecorded tracks, while there is only a slight chance of them performing anything live, so that I can have the chance to meet them? Screw that. Their new music could be shit for all I know. Most musicians only come out with one good album anyway, so the odds are really against their listening party being any good.
I’m starting to feel like my understanding of what a listening party is inaccurate. Like maybe it is a code word for drugs, or an orgy. That would make more sense than going to a place to listen to music with other people. If I was ever convinced to go to a listening party, and it would take a lot of convincing, I would still only go because I have the small hope that it would turn out to be an Eyes Wide Shut style orgy. I don’t want to participate, I just want proof that they are real.
