Captain America: Civil War came out last weekend and made a buttload of cash for Marvel. The movie was pretty darn great and most critics and audiences agree. Of course, they have a lot of things going for them that help them make a great movie. It is estimated that Civil War cost 250 million dollars. With that kind of money not only can they do great effects but they can also pay big actors like Scarlett Johansson and Robert Downey, Jr. They don't come cheap, my friend. Sure, you end up losing some grit and realism and the end product is super slick, but that's what we've come to expect from superhero movies. Studios are willing to put in lots of money into these productions because nowadays they are the only movies that make any real money.
Wouldn't it be great if some indie filmmakers with limited means and cardboard costumes could make as much money? Take, for example, this shot by shot recreation of the Captain America trailer done for like $15. I'm pretty sure they paid the crew with KFC.
