We all know Rule #1 of the Internet: people are assholes. Don't give me all this hippy ‘giving people a chance' talk, you know it's true. The anonymity of usernames and whatnot lets keyboard warriors, fat guys pretending to be sexy prom queens on dating sites and all kinds of other horrors run rampant.

Rule #1 of online gaming is very similar: don't play with randoms. Sucking, trolling, lone wolfing, all that stuff is rife. Sure, you can get yourself a perfectly good party/team this way, but it's a rare thing. Your experiences may differ, natch, but I say nuts to it.

Some games brilliantly combine both of these rules, making for notoriously douchey communities. Something like League of Legends, for instance. Survival title DayZ is another of these, but one guy tried a lil' social experiment with the game's players that might warm your heart. Like one of those cutesy videos of hiccupping puppies that get shared on Facebook, only with a gun.

‘The setup for this one is straightforward,' Kotaku's own Patricia Hernandez writes. ‘Cyborg Lizard decided to gift other players a new gun, no strings attached. What would these armed players do in response? Would they be kind? Or would they stab Cyborg Lizard in the back?'

Well, some did, obviously. But the whole thing was quite surprising overall. If you've played the game, you'll know how valuable resources are, and… I… I just can't. This is beautiful stuff, right here. It makes me want to call my Pa and tell him I love him while choking back a manly tear. Check it out:
