Up until now, Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, and The Avengers have dominated the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, in a few weeks a new chapter begins with the release of Guardians of the Galaxy. And it's a pretty weird chapter that the majority of moviegoers know nothing about.
That's why Marvel and director James Gunn have taken the approach they have with the trailers. The first one started with a joke about how nobody knows who the Guardians of the Galaxy are, then went through and explained who they are one by one. The second one started with the same joke, then went through another rundown explaining who everybody is before introducing Glenn Close as some sort of incredulous intergalactic space politician. And the third one, a TV spot, kind of summed the first two up in about half a minute.
The theme continues with the latest trailer, which technically is not a trailer but an "extended look." However, instead of painstakingly explaining who each character is, this one assumes you've already seen the other trailers and instead focuses on their role as a galactic crime fighting team.
In any case, hopefully everybody's on board with this film by now, because it hits theaters on August 1.
