Guess which one of these things is not like the other: Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Harrison Ford, or the dude from Frasier?
It's the last one.
Kelsey Grammer is joining the cast of The Expendables 3, which up until now consisited primarily of 80's action-movie icons. Grammer's stint on Cheers certainly lends to his 80's street cred. But he's sorely lacking in the action department (Sideshow Bob notwithstanding). Regardless, he'll be playing an ex-mercenary along side big names like Jason Statham and Jet Li.
In a strange turn of events, Grammer's role was reportedly turned down by Nicholas Cage. So the real question isn't why they chose Grammer, but rather why Cage turned down a role? The guy will do anything. Seriously, he's set to star in the remake of the Kirk Cameron rapture-porno Left Behind, so why he would turn down this film is beyond me.
