Kaspersky: Apple’s Security is Ten Years Behind Microsoft’s

Apple has made a name for itself in the world of consumer electronics, but they're not exactly the hottest thing on the block when it comes to security.

Viruses that infect OS X devices were usually unheard of, because few cybercriminals were willing to go through all the effort of writing up code and breaking exploiting systems that only had a few users. Up until now, that is. 

With the recent outbreak of the Flashback trojan (read about it here) and the spread of a stealthier version of the virus (read about it here), Apple needs to up its game on the security scene, before they're overrun.

This is an opinion shared by the folks over at Kaspersky Labs, who explained that the increasing market share of Apple's Mac would translate to more malware for the platform, with the first of these being the Flashback trojan.

Apple is now entering the same world as Microsoft has been in for more than 10 years: updates, security patches and so on. They will have to make changes in terms of the cycle of updates and so on and will be forced to invest more into their security audits for the software.

[Microsoft] had to do a lot of work to check the code to find mistakes and vulnerabilities. Now it's time for Apple [to do that].
