UFC 145 Main Card Predictions
The long anticipated match between Johnny "Bones" Jones and "Sugar" Rashad Evans will finally take place in Atlanta later this April. Fans have been waiting for this match for over a year now and this could end up being one of the highest selling PPVs in UFC history.
Jon Jones (15-1) vs. Rashad Evans (17-1-1)
The Story: The former friends and teammates have been at a war of words ever since Jones took Rashads place in the 205 lbs. title fight last year against "Shogun" Rua. Jones was told immediately after winning the title that he would fight Rashad but a rash of injuries have pushed the fight back numerous times. The bad blood has not gone away either as both fighters have continued to bad mouth each other ever since.
Rashad claims he never had a problem handling Jones during their days of training together at Greg Jackson's camp. Jones claims it was just practice and Rashad was only able to hold him down and not do anything else. This fight will finally help us figure out who the better fighter is.
Prediction: Jon Jones by Decision. While I beleive Rashad has one of the better chances against a fighter of Jones' caliber I feel that he is too small. Jones is basically a heavyweight fighting at 205. Rashad could probably make the 185 lbs. divison if he tried and that may be the move he makes after this fight.
Rory MacDonald (12-1) vs. Che Mills (14-4)
The Story: Both fighter are up and coming in the UFC Welterweight division. Rory MacDonald, the Canadian, has run through almost every one of his opponents. He even dominated a fight with 170 lbs. champion Carlos Condit in his second UFC fight. He ended up losing to Condit at the very end of the third round but with that fight he showed the world he is a fighter to respect.
Che Mills on the other hand has mostly fought for British promotions. The native of Englnd will be making his second Octogon appearance and is coming off a win over Chris Cope in his UFC debut.
Prediction: MacDonald by Submission. Rory is on fire, and while Che is riding a 5 fight winning streak I do not think he will be able to handle the raw power that MacDonald possesses. Expect Rory to take him down at will and lock on a submission by the second round.
