When Lucasfilm hired Jon Favreau to create a television series set in the Star Wars universe, we all knew it would be something with a throwback appeal considering Favreau is a child of the 70s. The Iron Man helmer is knee deep in his live action series, with set photo leaks abound showing a Mos Eisley-esque desert location, and now we know the series' title and official synopsis, courtesy of Favreau's Instagram account.
The Mandalorian won't be set in the Rogue One-era as previously thought, but rather in the period between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens, making this the second new series to explore this time period—the upcoming animated series Resistance is set immediately before TFA. Rumor has it that in addition to being the series' Executive Producer, Favreau will be directing several episodes, as will Star Wars: Rebels creator Dave Filoni and Thor: The Dark World's Alan Taylor.
The series is scheduled to be exclusively available on Disney's new streaming service, Disney Play, set to launch sometime in the second half of next year. If this isn't enough to entice you to sign up, I don't know what is. This sounds badass, and I think Favreau's gonna hit it out of the park.
