If I have any complaint at all about John Wick Chapter 2, it's that it didn't involve the owner of the dog Wick stole from a clinic at the end of the film coming to hunt him down. Other than that, it was a fantastic follow-up to one of the best action films of the decade, and it's now been made official that a third installment in the John Wick saga will be going into production shortly.
According to That Hashtag Show, the film begins shooting on March 1 with New York City, Spain, and Russia on the list of filming locations for the third film. Chad Stahelski—who co-directed the first film before going solo for the second—is back to direct the film, as is Keanu Reeves obviously, along with Common, Ruby Rose, and Laurence Fishburne. New to the cast this time around and playing the main antagonist is Japanese actor Hiroyuki Sanada, with whom Reeves co-starred in 2013's 47 Ronin. There's also an intriguing tidbit about a role that has yet to be cast...
The studio is searching for an actress in her late 20s to early 40s and is open to diverse casting. While we’ve heard that Reeves is keen to bring actress Tilda Swinton into the John Wick franchise, this may NOT be that role.
Yes to anything with Tilda Swinton, she makes every movie she's in better. Honestly though, if this one sticks the landing, you're looking at Keanu's best trilogy by a country mile. Unless, of course, we ever get that third Bill & Ted movie they keep yakking about. John Wick Chapter 3 hits theaters on May 17, 2019, two weeks after Avengers 4 and a week before the live-action Aladdin with Will Smith.
