John Travolta is one of those actors who makes life impossibly difficult for his fans. His poor decision making and constant need to appear in movies he's already made has kept his fan base on the defensive for nearly 20 years now.
Travolta's latest, Speed Kills, may as well be any of a dozen other movies you've seen before. This one feels very similar to last year's American Made with Travolta's fellow Scientologist Tom Cruise. The trailer is also a direct rip-off of the one for Black Mass that made that movie look watchable, right down to a very similar sounding song...
One look at the cast list for Speed Kills should give you a good indication of what to expect. First up, somebody dialed 1-900-Scumbag and got James Remar on the hook. We've also got Matthew Modine playing George H.W. Bush, Kellan Lutz from Twilight and Hercules, and the unemployable Tom Sizemore as "Mobster."
Pair all that with the guy who directed Texas Chainsaw 3D and you've got a recipe for one of Travolta's worst yet. There's nothing I want more than for him to be in good movies again, but I'm not about to sit through another bad one just because he's in it—like Gotti.
Speed Kills opens in "limited release" on November 16. Look for it at Redbox the following week.
