J.J. Abrams' trademark secrecy regarding the characters and plot of the upcoming Star Wars: Episode VII has led to an explosion of fan theories created by obsessed nerds and bloggers.
Of course, inducing fans to cook up such theories is the point of all the secrecy. And director J.J. Abrams has been enjoying the hell out of it.
What is Abrams' fan favorite theory so far? He was asked just that in an Entertainment Weekly Siriux XM Town Hall on Monday, and obviously he said it's the one about the Jar Jar Binks actually being an evil Sith mastermind who conspires with Senator-turned-Emperor Palpatine to destroy the Jedi and take over the galaxy. You know, the one one put forth in that incredible 2300-word reddit post last month. The one that concluded, "Jar Jar Binks is Supreme Leader Snoke!"
(Seriously, if you have not heard this theory yet, go read it right now. We'll wait.)
"There was this unbelievably lengthy analysis, in a very seriously thought-out way, as to why it's obviously true that he is [evil]," Abrams said. "And that to me is remarkable."
Have a listen for yourself:
Congratulations, reddit user Lumpawarroo! J.J. Abrams (and the rest of the internet) thinks your theory is awesome. Unfortunately, this probably means Jar Jar Binks is not Supreme Leader Snokes.
Wait a minute. Jar Jar Binks? J.J. Abrams? No, I take it back. It's true. All of it.
