IT smashed box office records earlier this fall, but as everyone who saw it knows, that was only half the story. The kids of Derry Maine will return as adults in the sequel, and at least one A-list actress wants in on the action. Jessica Chastain made the 2013 film Mama with IT director Andy Muschietti—his directorial debut—and indicated in an interview with Screen Rant that she'd like to reteam with him for the sequel.
While promoting her latest film, Aaron Sorkin's directorial debut Molly's Game, Chastain was asked about the possibility of getting in on the sequel and here's what she had to say...
Well, I love Andy and (his wife) Barbara. I worked with them on Andy’s directorial debut, you know, his film, Mama. His first film. And you know, Barbara is one of my best friends so... we'll see.
Listen, of course, I want to work… they’re my friends. They’re like my family. Anything that they’re doing I want to be a part of, so I hope we can make it happen.
So nothing is set in stone, but I can't imagine any studio chief turning down Jessica Chastain. It's a perfect bit of casting and they need to get the ball rolling on this sequel before clown fever runs dry.
