Jennifer Lawrence and director Francis Lawrence may not be related, but you might be fooled into thinking so considering that Red Sparrow will be their fourth film together. Based on a book of the same name, Red Sparrow tells the story of Dominika Egorova (Lawrence), a ballerina turned seductress working for the Russian government.
Now that Jennifer Lawrence is embracing her sexuality on-screen, it's been leading to some new and interesting roles for her from last Fall's mother! to this film. Her character in this flick is trained to use her body as a weapon of seduction and then, inevitably, destruction. That is, of course, until she meets Joel Edgerton's character, an American who has infiltrated the Russians. She could expose and destroy him, as she's been trained to, but he's just too much of a durn hunk.
Between this and Passengers, I'm beginning to think that J-Law has a type. Formerly pudgy dudes with a perpetual squint. I guess that gives pudgy dudes everywhere hope that if they lose some weight and then get ourselves into some precarious predicament with Jennifer Lawrence, she'll inevitably fall for them. It's the ultimate bait and switch. Red Sparrow opens on March 2.
