If there's one figure in professional sports today whose life story begs to be turned into a biopic, it's Mike Tyson. The guy rose from the streets to become the heavyweight boxing champion of the world, bit the ear off Evander Holyfield, spent six years in prison for rape, and now has become a kind of comedian with a one-man broadway show who plays a caricature of himself in movies.
Don't get me wrong, I am not saying the bad stuff Tyson did was okay. It's not. Rape is bad. Biting ears off is bad. All I am saying is the guy's life would make one hell of an interesting movie. And now, according to Variety, it is going to be a movie—one that stars Jamie Foxx.
The project is still untitled at this point. Foxx's agent, Rick Yorn, is set to produce, while Terrence Winter is set to write the script. But we don't yet know who will direct or what direction the film will take.
Whatever the direction, though, I just hope the film includes Tyson's best stories—like the time he was hanging out with Alfonso Ribero, and Rick James came up and punched Carlton in the face and stole his beer. Or the time he was in prison and some guy explained how to turn "regular" visits into "conjugal" visits.
Yep, this could be good.
