Now that Guardians of the Galaxy has given him clout, James Gunn is dipping into the crucial world of reviving his childhood obsessions. Gunn wants to reboot Starsky and Hutch, and the rights holders of that property—Sony Television—couldn't be happier to have someone with a lot of heat interested in them again. It's a win-win-win-win... there's a lot of winning. Charlie Sheen-esque levels.
According to Deadline, Gunn is executive producing and writing the reboot—described as a "a character driven one-hour procedural"—alongside his brother Brian and their cousin Mark. So it sounds as though we won't be dealing with something as overtly comedic as the 2004 movie, yet I doubt with Gunn writing and potentially directing, that this will be as self serious as the original series. It'll be Guardians of the Galaxy in a Gran Torino, it'll be a lot of fun. And if Gunn directs, you can be sure Michael Rooker will be involved somehow.
While I think we all want to forget that 2004 movie, I must insist they include the "Do It" guy in this new show. Run him over or something. I don't know, something fun. We can workshop it later...
