Softcore porn flick Wonder Woman is as divisive as Chrissy Teigen's cellulite. Admit that it's not your new religion and you hate women and their protesting and their tampons. The creators behind Wonder Woman, which has grossed over $820 million worldwide since premiering in June, tout the flick's profound contribution to the feminist zeitgeist. A strong independent superhero who don't need no man. But definitely takes care of her body to ensure bangability. And bankability. The full package.
But critics note that Woman portrayer Gal Gadot still sports an outfit that warrants the line "But I didn't call for a plumber. Guess my pipes could use a good cleaning." Despite claims of it being toned-down. James Cameron is slowly beginning his pimp tour for the upcoming Avatar 2, set for release in forty-five-years, and yesterday regurgitated his criticism of Wonder Woman while chatting with The Hollywood Reporter. When asked to clarify his previous remarks insisting that Wonder Woman is an "objectified icon," he elaborated:
Yes, I'll stand by that. I mean, [Gal Gadot] was Miss Israel, and she was wearing a kind of bustier costume that was very form-fitting. She's absolutely drop-dead gorgeous. To me, that's not breaking ground. They had Raquel Welch doing stuff like that in the '60s. It was all in a context of talking about why Sarah Connor — what Linda created in 1991 — was, if not ahead of its time, at least a breakthrough in its time. I don't think it was really ahead of its time because we're still not [giving women these types of roles].
Wonder Woman's a whore. Finally someone in Hollywood said it. Director Patty Jenkins shot back by saying that not all strong independent women need to appear "hard, troubled, and tough." Period cramps much. But Cameron isn't about to be outbitched:
Linda looked great. She just wasn't treated as a sex object. There was nothing sexual about her character. It was about angst, it was about will, it was about determination. She was crazy, she was complicated. … She wasn't there to be liked or ogled, but she was central, and the audience loved her by the end of the film. So as much as I applaud Patty directing the film and Hollywood, uh, "letting" a woman direct a major action franchise, I didn't think there was anything groundbreaking in Wonder Woman.
Maybe people need to look for female empowerment outside fictional characters originally created by men as masturbatory aids for the meek. Plenty of movers and shakers out there doing stuff. With the fatal flaw of not being as sexy as Gal Gadot. This is all such a drag. Where's Harley Quinn when you need her. Now there's a real slut.
