James Cameron won a plagiarism suit filed against him for the movie Avatar. A guy named Gerald Morawski claims that he pitched an idea about evil corporate dudes battling native peoples in the early 90's. There was no provable evidence to corroborate that he had a hand in thinking up one of the highest grossing film of all time. Still...I still don't let Cameron off the hook on coming up with the story for Avatar on his own. Let see, a money hungry construction company wants to destroy the sacred and magical rainforest inhabited by magical creatures. A goon of the company infiltrates the magical creatures, becomes one of them, and leads a revolt to stop the company's plans. Doesn't that sound an awful lot like the classic 80's animated film Ferngully: The Last Rainforest? Because to me it sounds A LOT like the movie about fairy folk trying to stop their mystical tree homes from getting torn down. I'm not saying that Cameron plagiarized, but I think he was...inspired by Ferngully. REALLY inspired. Also The Smurfs.
