FUNNY

For all the great performances he's given over the years, I still believe that Will Ferrell's best performance is in 2003's Elf. He is absolutely magical in that movie, a magnetic presence you can't take your eyes off of, not unlike another famous SNL alum, Eddie Murphy in Beverly Hills Cop.
The folks over at Screen Junkies have put together an Honest Trailer for Jon Favreau's yuletide classic, which is celebrating its 15th anniversary this year... feel old yet? I was a full-on adult when Elf came out, which is a little like hearing your twenty fifth high school reunion came and went without you noticing.
Back to Ferrell, he's created a number of fantastic characters over the years from Ron Burgundy and Ricky Bobby to Brennan "Has a Mangina" Huff and Jackie Moon, but Buddy the Elf is pure, unbridled joy, and it's really no wonder Ferrell became a movie star immediately after its release.
So yes, Screen Junkies, have your laughs, make your dings against the film, but 2003 remains the best year for Christmas movies in the new millennium. It gave us Elf and Bad Santa—and even your girlfriend's favorite, Love Actually—so it gets a pass in my book. Ferrell is back in theaters this Christmas with Holmes and Watson.
