TV & FILM

Remember in the days of yore when you'd show up to watch a movie and be treated to a bevy of trailers for movies you knew nothing about? 'Wow, Jack Nicholson is playing the Joker in a Batman movie? That's so cool.' 'They're making a sequel to Weekend at Bernie's?? Well, it's certainly about time.' But those days are over. Now we have the internet flooded first with stolen set pics from cell phones, officially released stills, then a trailer for the teaser, then the actual teaser, then the full trailer, then the Blu-ray. I think somewhere in there the actual movie is released to theaters, but who knows.
But I've got to say that everything about this trailer looks better than the mopey, dopey Iron Man 2 which was less of a movie and more of a commercial for The Avengers. And speaking of The Avengers, how they're going to make an Iron Man movie seem relevant after Tony Stark travelled through a space-time vortex and blew up an alien ship with a nuke, effectively saving the entire world from global domination seems like a worthy question to ask. Just say he's God, okay? I'm not sure what else you can do at this point, Iron Man is now God. There. Done. Though they probably aren't doing that, we are in luck as Shane Black is behind the helm as co-writer and director of the new flick.
Some of you may remember him as the guy who created Lethal Weapon, The Last Boyscout, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, and a little film known as Monster Squad!!! Black is a badass with razor sharp dialogue and a flair for over-the-top action and zingers, just what the franchise needs to reinvigorate Stark's solo act. So if anyone can find a place for Iron Man based in the real world, Black is the man to take it there.
The images in the released trailer show us that things are not all that bright for Tony Stark post-Avengers and he's got his hands full between Ben Kingsley's The Mandarin trying to blow him and his wanna-be bride Pepper Potts up and Guy Pearce as Aldrich Killian trying to steal his suit and slip some tongue to his wanna-be bride. Will this finally be the movie where we get to see Gwyneth Paltrow bite the big one? Has Santa finally been looking at my Christmas list (I've also doubled down by asking for this from my parents for Hanukkah)??
Also starring Don Cheadle and original-director Jon Favreau, Iron Man 3 opens May 3rd.
