There's a reason a spike in volleyball is also referred to as a kill. It's a violent scoring play. Or in the case of one high school match, it nearly killed two people. Okay, maybe that's a bit of hyperbole, but the girl who takes the full force of the spike off of her face and then lays on the ground might argue that it's accurate. (She was fine, by the way.)
Not only does the shot devastate the poor girl, the force of it ricochets the ball back across the gym and miraculously under some kid's feet as he's walking down the sideline, dropping him to the ground. This all went down in Iowa with Forth Madison Holy Trinity Catholic High hosting Winfield-Mount Union High. They really like long high school names in Iowa apparently.
Either way, I already watched this about ten times. I'm guessing you might want to as well. Also, nice work by the high school kids chanting 'facial' as the girl is laying motionless on the ground. Kids, amirite?
