In Her Next Movie, Anne Hathaway Will Play a Beautiful Rich Woman Whom Nobody Really Likes

Personally, I've got nothing against Anne Hathaway. She's a gorgeous woman and a talented actor who makes pretty good films who's never done anything to me. So as far as I'm concerned, we're cool. (And as far as she's concerned...who the hell am I?)

Unfortunately, not everyone feels the same way. A great many nameless, faceless people out there on the internets loves to hate on her, and during the 85th Academy Awards back in February all the hatin' reached a crescendo. To paraphrase every tweet with the hashtag #hathaway from that cold winter night, 'Anne Hathaway is the worst person ever and why does she even live GOD I HATE HER!'

Why do I mention all this now?

Well, after her big Oscar win and the equally big beatdown in the Twittersphere, Anne Hathaway has been pretty slow to choose new roles so far in 2013. But now she's announced her next role, and she'll be playing—are you ready for this?—a rich and beautiful woman of questionable character on trial for murdering other passengers on a lifeboat so that she might survive.

No, really. You see, Hathaway will produce and star in the movie adaptation of The Lifeboat, a novel by Charlotte Rogan. We don't know who will direct or who else will appear in the film, but we do know it's about a woman named Grace Winter who, in 1914, gets stranded on an overcrowded lifeboat after her oceanliner sinks. There is not enough room on the boat for everyone, so the passengers must make some difficult moral decisions, and apparently the character Hathaway plays really has no problem kicking people off the boat to save herself.

Like I said before, I've got no problem with Anne Hathway. But given the fact that so many people do, this role was an interesting choice.
