I happen to really dig J.J. Abrams. I think his Mission: Impossible revitalized the franchise and paved the way for Ghost Protocol to be as great as it was. Plus Star Trek was a better Star Wars movie than any of the prequels. Then came Super 8, which cost a third of what those other movies cost and kind of really dropped the ball in my opinion. So it seems weird that JJ Abrams has come out to claim movies are too expensive with bloated budgets these days when his best movies seem to be the ones the studio backs Uncle Scrooge's bank vault up to and dumps onto the set.
If Star Trek can be remembered for anything, it's how cheap the show and movies were sometimes. I mean, they reused footage from movies six-years old to save from having to shoot new space battles. So if JJ really wants to go back to making lower-budget films, he only has to take a card from his own universe and bring Star Trek back to a dirt-poor franchise no one in the mainstream wants to watch.
Is that what you want JJ? Is that really what you want? If you don't believe me, check out some of the cheapest looking villains Star Trek has come up with in order to keep budgets super low. And I'm not even going to mention the space mafia from TOS because I respect you too much.
