When I say "feature-length 3D dinosaur movie with breathtaking special effects," what images pop into your head?

Exactly! You picture Tyrannosauruses biting the heads off Pterodactyls and a pack of Raptors feasting on a Brontosaurus, right?

Unfortunately, the folks over at 20th Century Fox had something a little more cutesy in mind. They've made a movie called Walking with Dinosaurs, and—are you ready for this?—it's about two young dinosaurs growing up in a wild prehistoric world who just want to follow in the footsteps of their father, but whose path takes them on a wild adventure that eventually leads to them becoming leaders of their dinosaur community.

Seriously. That's what Walking with Dinosaurs is about. The film is based on the Walking with Dinosaurs: The Arena Spectacular live-action animatronic dinosaur show, which in turn was based on the 1999 BBC documentary miniseries of the same name.

So, sorry. There's lots of cute tumbling and roughhousing, plus plenty of wide-eyed dino-stares. But, according to the trailer, there are no T-Rexes savagely shredding their prey to bits.

Walking with Dinosaurs opens in 3D on December 20.
