British student Georgie Smith sounds like a my perfect girlfriend: She's cute, she's got a British accent, her name is Georgie (sigh) and she has no gag reflex. But that was before I learned that her body is basically a human trash disposal, just sucking things down her gullet like a duck without chewing. The 19-year-old Brit thought she was going to die when she felt the the toothbrush she was using fall down her throat. But then it just kept on going down and down and down...Bottoming out somewhere in the lower intestine.
Now since plastic doesn't show up on X-ray, there's no way of knowing right now exactly where the toothbrush is and whether it will has to be removed through surgery or if it will, er, pass, um....naturally. So we wish Georgie best of luck either on the operating table or on the can, either of which sound like harrowing experiences she won't soon forget.
Unfortunately a toothbrush is nowhere near the strangest thing doctors have has to pull out of someone's body. Humans use their holes like that toy scientists make apes play with, shoving the wooden blocks in and out of the appropriately-shaped holes. So check out the gallery to see the weirdest objects people have ended up with inside themselves.
