Gwyneth Paltrow's dress is giving off a Japanese vibe to me and I am not sure why that is. There is nothing particularly Asian about the design, it's not like she's wearing a kimono. Maybe it is because of the cut of the top and the bottom. It makes her look like one of those bamboo bundles that the swordsmen cut up.
I am going to go out on a limb and say the one sleeve at the top was a decision of fashion over function because I cannot think of a reason why someone would need one shoulder covered. That reminds me of vests; why would anyone need to keep their chest warm while allowing their arms to be cold? In all my years I have never once been in that situation. If you find yourself in that situation you should either wear a jacket, or wear nothing. Don't be wishy-washy. I usually find that my arms are colder than my torso, the body does prioritize it that way, so if anything I want there to be extra sleeves that I can throw like socks. It would seem only basketball players are allowed to wear those though.
