We're finally less than five months away from the release of Star Wars Episode VIII The Last Jedi, and the release of this behind the scenes sizzle reel has made the tension in the air palpable. This past weekend was the Disney fan festival known as D23, and writer/director Rian Johnson was on-hand with some of the cast members to reveal this short video that shows off a lot of the new creatures, characters, weapons, and planets we'll be getting to see for the very first time in The Last Jedi.

I could screengrab virtually every moment of this and point out something cool, but I find it better just to let it all wash over you. And then go back and watch it seven more times in a row to catch all the stuff you missed—and there's a lot. Of course, the most poignant parts involve the late, great Carrie Fisher and hearing her thoughts on the film and seeing her in action only makes her loss that much tougher to swallow.

This is the most action we've seen since the trailer debuted back in April, and as I've said before, I'm fine with that. The trailer could've been Mark Hamill looking directly into the camera and saying, "Episode VIII, December 15, be there," and that would've been enough for me. Of course, I'm always happy to see more and more and more, but I'm happier to wait. Star Wars Episode VIII The Last Jedi hits theaters on December 15.
