Funcom is in a pretty good place right now. They have their highly anticipated MMO 'The Secret World' coming out tomorrow and their stocks have risen by 227% last year alone. That is why this news may come as a shock to some....or all.
It's nothing dreadful or anything like I may have made it seem with my cliffhanging intro but long time CEO Trond Arne Aas has decided to resign from his position at Funcom and move down the ladder. While it's not everyday you see someone voluntarily demote themselves from the highest spot in a company, it's not completely unheard of. Trond has stated that he would like to be able to spend more time with his family in a 'freer' role.
Well, it's nice to know that it's for a legitimate reason and not some sort of issue with the company itself. Trond will still remain at Funcom as Director of Strategy, while his replacement will be Ole Schreiner who is the currently Funcom's Chief Operating Officer. Trond Arne Aas has overcome years of financial difficulties throughout the years and has managed to take Funcom and turn it into one of Norway's most profitable companies.
While I'm sure we'll miss Mr. Aas as the recognizable CEO of Funcom, his life span will most likely now be lengthened as his wife will no longer be full of murderous thoughts for her husband who's never around.
