On the one hand, we gamers can be a royal bunch of asspains. Nobody is beset by more horrendous first world problems than we are, and nobody is more likely to flip the hell out about them. It’s a dangerous combination, the kind that leads to people sending death threats to developers and their families over game delays. Â
One thing you can say about us, though: We’re a damn creative bunch. Around the internet, you can see nerdly blacksmiths making working replicas of Bloodborne weapons, nerdly musicians performing flawless medleys of video game music, nerdly artists and modders putting painstaking months into all kinds of amazing BS. This is their passion for the cause, right here, and you’ve got to admire that.
Oftentimes, these unofficial efforts by some dude in his garage come out much better than the official releases. Particularly in the case of custom consoles. Microsoft and Sony’s efforts tend to look like they’ve just had a quick five minute paintjob, just so the character of the hour (Master Chief, Nathan Drake, whoever) can appear on the front of the console.
Sometimes, though, very occasionally, something happens. Something you have absolutely no goddamn mothereffin’ words for. The Xbox One S Audi R8 Edition is one of those things.
Look at it. Look. Then look again. Nope, these aren’t insurance photos from some terrible midget fender bender. This is an actual, fully-functioning Xbox One S, the most peculiar half-a-car’s-hood limited edition design I think I’ve ever seen. It’s a promo dealie for the freshly-released Forza Horizon 3, which hits today, and only three of these bad boys were made.
Yeah, it sucks ass, but the good news is the competition's only available to German Xbox players via Xbox Germany’s Facebook page.
