For Some Reason ‘Raging Bull 2’ Is On It’s Way! Here Are 5 Other Needless Sequels

Remember Martin Scorsese's seminal 1980's masterpiece Raging Bull? You remember. It was quite possibly Scorsese's greatest ever film, a perfect mixture of cinematography, music, characterisation and story, all topped off by one of the best pieces of acting ever committed to celluloid in Robert De Niro's portrayal of Jake LaMotta.

After watching the boxing biopic did you ever think that you needed to see more? I'm guessing that if you did then you probably wouldn't have wanted Scorsese and DeNiro to continue their involvement in the LaMotta tale. They've already probably plateaued with it.

Well if you've answered yes to the above then your wish has come true because Raging Bull 2 is on its way and Marty and Bob are nowhere to be seen too. Like the original it is to be adapted from LaMotta's 1970 memoir and is going to show audiences "before the rage" and "after the rage". Whatever the hell that means.

William Forsythe will play Jake in his latter years with Mojean Aria being him in his youth, from a script by Rustam Branaman script, with Martin Guigui directing. As you may have noticed, none of these names are part of the Hollywood elite, meaning that there isn't much hope for the film.

But which other sequels have been needlessly created? And were ultimately minor footnotes to their superior elders?

The Great Escape II: The Untold Story - The Great Escape is one of the most uplifting and inspiring war films ever created so by adding Superman himself, Christopher Reeve, to the mix you would presume that things would get even better. But sadly this straight to TV follow-up is just terrible. It's cheesy, schmaltzy and has none of the class of the original.

Ocean's 12 & 13 - George Clooney and friends Ocean's 11 is one of the coolest films ever created. Soderbergh and all of the cast were at the height of their powers and a sequel was eagerly anticipated, however we all know that as soon as you attempt to recreate cool, you are immediately not cool anymore. Which this film proves indubitably.

Blues Brothers 2000 - Set 18 years after the Dan Aykroyd and Jon Belushi's classic original, John Goodman replaced the perished former SNL star and it also lost all of the wit, charm and soul of the original in the process too. It just makes you think, what's the point?

The Godfather: Part III - The Godfather: Parts I & II, are two of the greatest films ever created. However Coppolas attempts to recreate this success 16 years later was always destined to fail as soon as he cast his daughter in one of the lead roles. It must have been pretty awkward watching her have sex on screen too.

Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace, Episode II - Attack of the Clones, Episode III - Revenge of the Sith - Anticipation was so rife and passionate for the first Star Wars film in 1999 that the three films were always likely to disappoint. But no-one expected it to get this bad. Terrible dialogue and woeful plotting couldn't make up for immense special effects and Jar Jar Binks.
