How effective are your workouts? You can estimate all you want using calculators and charts, but they're not going to be accurate because everybody burns calories differently. You can strap on body sensors, but that seems like too much of a hassle, if you ask me. Making the entire process easier and more convenient for everyone are the folks from the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits IIS in Erlangen, Germany.
They've come up with a wearable fitness tracker called the FitnessSHIRT that monitors your vitals while you pump iron and run laps. An elastic band measures chest movements and keeps track of your breathing, while embedded conductive textile electrodes record your cardio activity.
