People are saddling up to the fentanyl you can eat buffet in record numbers and a bunch of them are dying. Basically, according to Buzzfeed News, the "in" thing in the East Coast is to lace cocaine with fentanyl. Party. Researchers aren't exactly sure why drug dealers are mixing the two, but they are sure that their customers aren't usually aware of the fentanyl. In fact fentanyl - an opioid 50% more potent than heroin - counteracts the buzz people expect from cocaine, so users take more than usual to get their high, not knowing that they're taking enough fentanyl to kill an international pop singing sensation/alleged child rapist for example.

Researchers shocked that drug addicts are dying from drug use hypothesize that the fentanyl-contaminated cocaine could be the result of sloppy kitchen chemists accidentally mixing product, end-users purposely mixing the two for that extra little sumpin sumpin, or drug dealers assuming that the introduction of fentanyl will make their cocaine more addictive. Spoiler: Instead it just kills their customers. But if it makes people feel better, they probably we're going to cure cancer. And to be frank they were probably ugly. Although, thin.

People in the New England are down to clown apparently, and in 2016 "...a synthetic opioid such as fentanyl showed up in more than 83% of the cocaine-related overdoses in New Hampshire; 70% of cocaine-related deaths in Massachusetts; nearly 64% of those in Maine; and 54% of those in Connecticut." I picture people in Maine eating lobster in their Subarus alongside their middle-aged lesbian lovers, but it's more like Scarface meets a low-key afternoon for Prince.

I'm one of those people who feels like when it's you're time to go it's you're time to go, but health advocates are scrambling to save addicts (over 4,000 fatally overdosed from fentanyl-like substances in 2016) from themselves in what they're calling an epidemic. Guys drugs aren't fentanyl they're cracked up to be. I'll leave you with a stat about an up-and-comer in the drug biz - carfentanil. It's 5,000 times more potent than fentanyl and showing up in cocaine as well. Today's takeaway - If you're going to get wet you might as well jump in.
