SUPEREGO
bill-swift - December 10, 2015
I remember when The Phantom Menace came out, my friends and I went and interviewed the super nerds that camped out all day before the movie started for our public access TV show, (this was before YouTube). We met people playing D&D in line or stewing in Chewbacca costumes for 24 hours before what turned out to be a truly awful film. Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the latest installment of the Star Wars Saga, is opening December 17th and people are already lining up outside of Hollywood's Chinese Theater. Sure, it doesn't open for another 8 days but these nerds will not be deterred. Never mind that they already have tickets and are going to get in any way. They want to be first to sit down, I guess. Look, I'm a big Star Wars fan and I already purchased my tickets for the 18th. But I, you know, have a job, a wife, and a life.
What are these guys' lives like? Do they not work? Go to school? Aren't they in finals? I just can't imagine putting my life on hold for over a week to camp out for a movie. Did I mention there are over a hundred people there? And that's just at that one theater. Nerds are lining up in front of other theaters nationwide. All I hope is that unlike those poor misguided nerds in the 90's, I hope this movie will be worth it.
