Greek director Yorgos Lanthimos has become one of the more prolific auteurs of his generation, cranking out a film a year for the last three years: 2016's The Lobster, last year's Killing of a Sacred Deer, and now the upcoming The Favourite. This will mark the director's first English language film without Colin Farrell in a leading role, but he's brought along some familiar faces.
The fantastic Olivia Colman plays Queen Anne, and she has worked with Lanthimos before—alongside her co-star here, Rachel Weisz—on The Lobster. Emma Stone has not worked with the director before, but she's still hot off winning an Oscar last year for La La Land, and is getting a lot of buzz for this one, in more ways than one.
Of course, one of the big draws for this flick is Emma's nude debut, and we have it on good authority that she does indeed go topless in bed with Colman. Lanthimos is notorious for his bizarre nude scenes in films like Dogtooth, so hopefully this flick plays it relatively straight. Nicole Kidman has a super bizarre nude scene in Killing of a Sacred Deer—which is sublimely weird and you should totally check out—where she plays dead for her surgeon husband (Farrell) in bed.
The Favourite should continue his trend of making very strange movies. It opens in North America on November 23.
