Ah, Star Wars. George Lucas's spacetastic series has performed two miracles: it was one of the first actually-not-too-nerdly slices of sci-fi, and its licensed video games were often not horribly wank. Remember the old Game Boy one? Or the GameCube's Star Wars: Rogue Leader? No, no you don't, but trust me when I say they were pretty freaking badass.
The franchise has made its mistakes, sure, and at times they've been huge eff off gigantic ones. Phantom Menace this, Jar Jar Binks that. But all in all, good job, Star Wars.
The games often manage to actually bring the spirit of the movies to life, to capture the majesty and grandeur of space travel betwixt the planets of the Star Wars universe. Less poetically but far more importantly, it's goddamn awesome to cruise about in an X-Wing and blow shit up. But hey, when both are pulled off well, so much the better.
Anywho. Elsewhere at E3, we were treated to a gameplay showcase of Star Wars: Battlefront. The third in the successful FPS/TPS hits in November, which gives EA a lot of time to build some hypetastic. Starting with this multiplayer footage of the Battle of Hoth, fresh from the show floor. It's only in the pre-alpha stage, but it's looking sweet.
