The stage was set for it to be a real special night in Los Angeles. With a win the L.A. Kings would earn the right to take home the franchise's first Stanley Cup. To do so by sweeping the Devils would make the win that much sweeter.
The Kings still might win the Cup, but they can't sweep the Devils and will now have to look to do it on enemy ice in New Jersey this Saturday (at 9 PM ET).
Much like the first two games this one was close early on. The first two periods went by without a single puck making it the back of the net. Patrick Elias gave the Devils the lead about eight minutes into the final period. Drew Doughty was able to take advantage of a power play to tie the game up for the Kings roughly a minute later.
With less than five minutes to play New Jersey took the lead for good when Adam Henrique snuck one by Kings goalie Jonathan Quick. Ilya Kovalchuk added an empty net goal for the Devils to make the final score 3-1, New Jersey.
